How many new laws have Tynwald passed in the last few years? New rules and regulations?

In other words how has the CS/PS workload increased to such an extent that they need more staff to cope?

Personally I don't believe it has...

It's the sort of position than can be lost, regardless if it's new or for a replacement. The PS wage bill is £600M+ a year. As Mr Tesco says, Every little helps.

No, I really don't believe they do, I don't think they even know where Treasury is based.

But the job maybe to replace an existing employee who is leaving, thus not for  new staff ( unless I’ve missed something in the advert)

@The Voice of Reason

So what?

They should try and cope without before recruiting more pencil-heads to swell the already burgeoning masses...

It's called "managing the assets" which should have started years ago...

Incidentally I noticed in the pub, Co-Op etc "Sign the Petition" sheets to keep the pool open had appeared.

Alas I was in the pub sans glasses with good company and a couple of pints on board so I failed to check where they had come from?

Anyone know the identity of the instigator(s)?

Just curious...

I was in a shop last week, and a very enthusiastic shop attendant make a massive effort to get 3 of my party members to sign this petition.  She was most indignant when 2 out 3 decided to decline.  It's something we all chattabout later, and its actually put us off going back to that business again.

Surely petitions are, by their very nature, to be carefully considered before a signature is added.

@Lilly

Did you consider it carefully enough to see who instigated it...?

I think you’ll find that treasury are fairly tough with most departments/MHKs who are always knocking on the door asking for more money. It’s caldric who is the gatekeeper and does a lot of declining on behalf of Alex.

Well without knowing the specific circumstances, needs of the department concerned and other details it’s  a pretty big assumption to make. Maybe you have inside knowledge.

It may even be that two people in that department have resigned simultaneously and the powers that behave decided they can replace them with one person. We just don't know the ins and outs

But if that were the case  it would  mean a net loss of one position,so that would be  good wouldn’t it?

If two were leaving they'd be advertising for four replacements!

The below is the pre eminent part of the job description. What is wrong with that.?
The salary being offered is hardly megabucks contrary to what some would have you believe re Civil Service wages.

“The role offers you the opportunity to join a busy and exciting area within the heart of the Department, providing general administrative support to the Energy Policy Team.”

What is your problem?

The problem is, the island is skint. This is a role which I suspect could be streamlined and its responsibilities absorbed elsewhere. It is still thirty grand and you have to start somewhere.

With all the bennies, pension, holidays, sick days etc the "fully loaded" figure is probably at least sixty grand!

The key words in your post Derek are “ I suspect”

You don’t know ( and I don’t know) what the reality is.

With respect,  somebody may equally have said when you came to work in the police force or were promoted  ( I don’t know your career progression)“ we don’t need him in that position, the role could be streamlined and its responsibilities absorbed elsewhere”

And I would wager that you were employed on a lot more than thirty grand.
