The recommendation was for all pools to be brought under government and run as an entity.

A Dept of Swimming Pools with a CEO, Deputy CEO, executives, managers and its own 20-strong HR section.

There is little enough for people down south to do and it is important children are taught to swim.    The Education authority has gone over budget according to the Courier so what are they spending their money on ?

They can go and see the Peggy when they build £5m shed!
overspend has gone on wages due to over budget awards for both teaching and administration staff.

If you are down south and you want something to do, you can get the bus to Douglas.

It’s not complicated

Except a two hour round trip on a bus if you want to go for a regular swim after work or school is not very realistic is it .

Edge now quoting a saving of £434k a year by closing the Southern pool.

So if we don't employ another 54 Govt HR wankers at a quoted cost of £3M, that could keep the pool open for another 6 years.

It is if you live pretty much anywhere else in Britain.

You think all towns the size of Castletown have a swimming pool five minutes away?  Get real.

Quite, how much did the bloody report cost?

This seems to be a growing trend within government. We have more highly paid elected representatives per head of population that just about anywhere else on the planet, not to mention enough high rolling civil servants to run the UN.

And yet we still insist on paying fortunes to external consultants to tell them how to run the place.

If you want to make savings it's not a bloody swimming pool you should be looking at. At least that serves some purpose.

Well yes I agree with you but it’s slightly different when you have something and then it’s taken away from you . If you never had it in the first place it’s easier to accept .

Draft report by consultants. I can see why government didn't like it. Too honest.

'In summary, it is KKP’s opinion that the current governance structure of Regional Pool Boards and Government’s relationship with regional pools is not fit for purpose as there is no clarity at either level on what is trying to be achieved . This is on the basis that:  There is no SLA or Outcome Agreement in place to support the operational subsidy which is paid to Pool Boards.  There is no ‘outcome audit trail’ (i.e. back to the objectives of Our Island Plan) for the subsidy paid to the Regional Pool Boards  Positions on Regional Pool Boards are based on local representation, not the skills and expertise required to manage the pools.  The skills that Regional Pool Board members bring to the table is ‘pot luck’, not withstanding the time and energy that the majority of Board members put into the role as volunteers.  There is no expectation and clarity for Regional Pool Boards on what they are trying to achieve within the context of Our Island Plan.'
