Yet everyone over forty seems determined to keep treating them as roundabouts and approaches them far too quickly because they can’t comprehend doing something different to what they are used to.

It’s bizarre behaviour.  People can’t claim they don’t understand  because everyone knows they aren’t roundabout so why do so many stubborn people simply refuse to just slow down to 5-10 mph and go with the flow?  Why do the same people stop when someone else is coming from their right?  Very strange indeed.

I'm confused over what you want here - what is wrong with approaching the roundels at the road speed o 20 mph? If you can see clearly from a distance that there is no traffic likely to obstruct you, then just go over it at normal speed.

If there is someone on the roundel, who is heading across you from the right, stop for them. They got there first. Avoid accidents.

Bear in mind that this is the Island. People often stop at Quarterbridge when they don't need to. But please... don't turn that into roundels!!!!

They ran out of money that is why the original design with pretty paving stone patterns did not happen.   I have noticed since the Promenade were started and bits were one lane and whatever people found it more convenient to use the Bucks Road way into town and it got really busy and has stayed that way the promenade seems quieter than it used to be.    The crossings without lights are a pain it is stop start as one pedestrian ambles across followed by another and so on.

We're not going to remove the seaweed we're going to put up signs instead telling you which types of stinking, decomposing seaweed you can smell. 🤣

"The report said in 'certain' weather conditions like high winds, it's washed back into 'Zone B' of the beach and left to decompose leaving a bad smell.

The council confirmed it won't be removing vegetation but will instead install signs to 'educate' beach users on the different types of native flora and fauna."

leave the seaweed for the winter it make an excellent medium for feeding birds  , if anyone wants to swim during this period  the area in front of the bandstand does not seem to attract seaweed ,

if the beach is to be re profiled then a decent size bulldozer  hired for a week could move thousands of tons   ,rather then playing about with a modified agricultural tractor  better still see whats lying idol at Ellerslie

I don't think so, they were installed to improve the flow of traffic, which they do when used correctly.

They were installed because some crayonista wanted them on their CV/LinkedIn profile.

If they're that good why wasn't the junction at the new Ballasalla estate painted as a roundel?

Because it’s not in a low speed zone with lots of pedestrians.

its a completely different scenario.

Along with red zebra crossings and "celtic hairband" crossing markings on fast main roads....

The problem is that most people treat them like roundabouts, so even if you try and drive them as intended and do the take turns/merge thing, you invariably always have someone from the right that just barrels through, starts beeping, attempting a confrontation.

The celtic hairband literally killed people and the red zebra crossings were invisible and would have killed people if there hadn't been an intervention.  Considering the fact we over regulate everything to death here, our experimental approach to road markings is puzzling.

What are the rules covering the unofficial pedestrian crossings on the prom. (including the ones with Belisha beacons)?

From somewhere on the Interweb:

"Zebra crossings are different. Pedestrians have an absolute right to cross whenever and however, suddenly, the blame will rest with the motorist if a collision occurs." - as opposed to light controlled crossings where the pedestrians also have to obey the lights.

So if someone gets hit on one of these fake zebra crossings, will it be treated as if the pedestrian had wandered out into the road anywhere. It cannot be treated as a zebra crossing because the legalities are not complied with.

I might also ask that if the person driving the car is an MHK or similar, would they be treated differently to a nobody like me in the same situation? That would never happen, would it. Just me being unreasonably cynical.
