Pushing the limits

Come on Isle of Man.  Let’s do something bold and put the place on the map!!

”We are building a new model, a living laboratory for entrepreneurship, a home for an international community of dreamers and doers – set in breathtaking natural landscapes and driven by advanced disruptive technology. We’re a cutting-edge industrial powerhouse and a revolution in urban living. We’re home to some of the world’s most beautiful islands. In other words, we’re a diverse destination that offers something for everyone, and we’re as unique as it gets.”

Just seen a TV advert for this, opening 2027. Meanwhile we do very little revolutionary and spend decades deciding if we should build a much needed school or not.

Are you sure that this area with 9 million inhabitants is a good comparison with iom.?

Its an example of the sort of thinking we need to be applying.

lets face it, even if some Saudi Billionaire came here and offered to convert a couple hundred acres somewhere into a cutting edge world leading development entirely at his cost and guaranteed it would be full of new residents, locals and MHKs would object.

We are so backward the island is doomed.  Everything anyone proposes is knocked back by people who want the island to be like it was 40 years ago.

Didn't we have an airport director who promised us millions of visitors.

I seem to remember that went pretty well. 😂  .  You don't come from Colchester do you?

Jeez.  Fair enough.

I though an example of what other places are doing might provoke a conversation about options the island could look at.

Clearly not.  The attitudes shown on here so far probably sum up why this poxy island will never achieve anything.

Never mind

Nope.  Thought it might spark an interesting chat.

I overestimated the posters on here.  I will go and find something suitably negative for you all to get excited by instead 🙄

If we discover the world’s biggest oil field under Laxey tomorrow, the environmentalists and nimbys would object to us utilising it.  It’s embarrassing

The stone age didn't end because we ran out of stones!

So on the one hand you want to be revolutionary and progressive. On the other hand, given the opportunity, you want us to start exploiting our (imaginary) oil reserves.

I think you need to make your mind up.
