And did Cowin spit the dummy because empire building was nipped in the bud?

A number of pigeons are returning to roost, although not all of Mr Cowin's making, he hasn't been in there (less than 2.5 years) long enough.

Yes, it long pre-dates Mr Cowin's tenure. Another of Mr Whiteway's flawed revenue-empire calls.

Ultimately it was a deck chair moving exercise. To suddenly sting a few absorbed households with a whacking great rate rise is unfair, as well as smacking a bit of desperation.

It also fails to address the elephants of all-island rates,  and local authority costs.

I noted one argument was that Ramsey 'services' the North. It might do, but what % of that is actually the Commission's gift? Outside of the park, and beach, and making sure it is clean and tidy, people come to shop and socialise in the businesses. The rest of the job does provide some services like registrar but is broadly servicing those that live in the town boundary and managing nearly 600 public sector homes.

Over here of course is the dreaded Council tax. If you live in a band D house in a rural area of a Borough, you'll pay ostensibly the same as one in a town..it's a lot more representative of 21st century living bit by god its expensive!

Perhaps it all needs a step back from and a bit of a rethink?

Local authority reform is where the savings and efficiencies could be found.

However the tactic used in this case wasn't appropriate.

There needs to be a wider review and mergers island wide

Garff took ten years, so good luck with that

They don’t want much according to the advert…

Well in a sense they don't.  There's absolutely nothing in there to suggest any need for knowledge or experience of local government on the Island or anywhere else.  Which you'd think might be an idea.

There is never any mention of previous experience in the actual position advertised, Its this assumption that a manager can manage any position. No matter if you managed a pickle factory before you should  be fine in a patient organ transplant position, Its a Linky-Dink dream.

Primarily designed to appeal to CS members who fancy a bit of an end of career top up, which is precisely where the last two incumbents came from. Any necessary experience can be picked up on the job.
