A rise getting on for twice the rate of inflation for Douglas ratepayers? That takes some swallowing. What cuts and economies were considered, any City Hall salary and numbers haircuts? No, of course not.

It will have to be some press release and budget book to keep pitchforks in sheds over this.

This smacks of carry on as normal.  This attitude towards Douglas rate payers is not sustainable.  They need to look at their wastage and staffing, its the closest thing to a mini CS.  You cannot keep hiking rates at twice inflation.  Businesses and householders deserve better.  The service is poor already, make some cuts.

12.57% and we get fortnightly collections, recycling - which lets face it, only some use, unlike the refuse which everyone uses. I guess we need to subsidise the expensive sea wall works, new amenity site (which is quite nice) but gets used by most people in the east of the island - including Santon, Laxey, Malew etc.

That means between DCC and Treasury, im likely going to be paying £2k annually for the benefit of living in Douglas...

This is just the public sector blatantly looking after itself and its own T&Cs and being happily obliged by the elected.

It also sets a precedence for other LAs, in removing any ceiling that might have been imposed by conscience.

Ah the joys of City living. Wonder how the leftie council members square this circle, seeing as they've just plunged a load of low earners into debt. Living wage my arse.

Probably in detailed accounts but c£120k subsidy last year.

I've never understand why the Golf Course subsidy is treated like such a dirty little secret.

Just be open and honest about it, if there's nothing DBC are worried about or would rather the public didn't know about.

It’s way less than that but I’d have to check the precise figure. Having an accessible golf course and club is a good thing, and it’s not like we can do much else with the land. It has to pay for itself though and will do so soon.
