Shake me up Judy
Allinson's summing up is sounding like the longest Oscars acceptance speech ever. He'll be thanking his mum next. Mr President should be giving him the finger across the windpipe sign.

And he did not raise tax thresholds so more people paying more taxes if they get wage rise to cope with inflation. Does anyone really believe that they'll lower the higher rate back to 20%? So there will be another set of CS mandarins to collect and administer the £20m, more red tape and paperwork for businesses and individuals to confrom. Government making more governemtn to sort out a government made problem. How about ringfencing what the hospital and schools need and let the rest fight over the remains? This aims to replace the 2% tax increase and also apply to residents who do not pay income tax in the Isle of Man. Who are the residents who do not pay income tax? Children? Pensioners? Housewives? Students? Since a couple have a joint tax free allowance of 29k there are many who have retired to the island. Provided they own their own house £2.4k a month is a very decent retirement income. Or they can have upto 42k income for around £1300 in tax. That's a 3% tax rate on the £42k Edited February 20 by mad_manx

Are they allowed to do this ? The President should be chairing this debate. Especially Julie Edge who keeps going on about everybody 'reaching their potential'. That's a meaningless concept. She's just listing what the Department of Education, Sport and Culture spend their money on. And it's not her department. It's ours.

I actually did these numbers for ourselves last night and it really made me wonder how families get by. The couples joint allowance helps, but with some careful accounting it can be managed in the UK 1

Non-Believer
This is where not having opposition politics is highlighted. Has anybody stood up and criticised yet, let alone voted against? We have an executive that is unrestrained and no checks and balances.

Shake me up Judy
The point of a second chamber is nicely illustrated in Westminster, where the Government is struggling to get its Rwanda Bill through the House of Lords. Our lot just nod everything through and pick up the cheque. Corrupt Manx politics. 2
