This situation has been building for some time now though, although recent comments from many politicians, Allinson and Stu Peters included, have served to inflame it.

As for Allinson's response, it's the usual politicians/cs weasel words and half truths. What they don't say is often a greater indicator than what they do say.

Direct quote from the CoC

'Ministers must be prepared to listen and understand, not listen to answer. Too much recent interchange has been the latter'

Allinson's letter (written by a CS drone obviously) is exactly that, not understanding.

Would you suggest not asking for payrises that track inflation? Perhaps a public sector pay cut?

I would suggest people are realistic in their expectations, and that we don’t have unions asking for 10 percent and higher raises that are clearly not sustainable.

Their priority is the funding of their own "little" society's terms and culture with no intention of engaging in any realistic economies because there is the expectation that it will be endlessly funded.

These are the seeds of social unrest being planted right now.

If everyone keeps getting payrises to match inflation, then the theory goes that inflation will just carry on going.  The whole point of bringing inflation down is that people have to get generally poorer for a period.  Although as noted a lot of the Unions lobbying and threatening Govts (everywhere) are getting rises over and above.  This relates to (I think Allinson's) smug remarks that Public Payrises were better than the Private.  Of course they are you prick, it's because they are all unioning up against you.  Most of us don't have that luxury.

Little by little CM Cannans little empire is disintegrating. Clare Christian Douglas South MHK has resigned her role as member of the DESC, on the grounds of funding and policy direction. How many other MHKs will follow suit?

She’s gunning for his seat.

Unless she is really prepared to make major unpopular decisions, for example, a cull of the civil service, as well as raising taxes, across the board, not just affecting one group, but everyone.

Why not a public sector cull. MARS on steroids?

Natural wastage is fine.  A cull wouldn’t really work unless they are all guaranteed employment in the private sector so we don’t end up having to fund their benefits as well.

Personally , I don’t know many who have been in civil service jobs that would adapt very well to the real world.

If ever there was proof that IOMG is responsible for adding to inflation, then this is it.

Funnily enough I remember the COC had a bit of a kick off with the Govt last year.  Due to our low unemployment and skills shortage, they were claiming (fairly justifiably) that the Govt were stealing all the spare employees.

What choice did they have.

When the teachers and nurses were looking for stupidly big rises the public support for them from people not understanding the implications was huge.

The teachers were able to go on strike over it, and people still backed them.

Don't necessarily disagree but any further increases in pay and conditions from now on that's not met with corresponding reductions elsewhere will add to inflation.

The issue is really not about frontline health or education, it's the so called desk jockeys elsewhere in IOMG. For example, do we really need a CEO and all the attendant expenses that goes with that job for each of the DfE Executive Agencies? The DfE is out of control, totally out of control.
