Fred the shred
Do Taxi drivers have any background checks before getting their licence ?
The Bastard
Presumably not a very thorough one. There used to be a prominent taxi driver who had a history of convictions for harassing women and threatening behaviour, which you'd think would be a no-no for someone in that trade. Doesn't sound like it's on the radar.

Enhanced DBS checks, but I'm sure Peter Sutcliffe would have passed one of those before he was caught.
Fred the shred
With all the safeguarding that goes on these days perhaps people that come in contact with the public such as taxi drivers should be included. I know all the volunteers that help in any capacity in the Church of England have to jump through hoops regardless of what capacity they are helping in perhaps anyone who has contact with vulnerable people such as women on their own should take the course which is not a one off it has to be renewed at intervals. If they have a history of convictions, you don't. You can only deal with what you know. Doesn't stop incidents from non-offenders, but if someone has a history of violent threats and harassment, they're obviously not the person you want picking up vulnerable people late at night. Anyone
Like the polis you mean , who should you would think know who the bad guys are. But then some of them are the bad guys. Never trust the polis and never ‘help them with their enquiries ‘ - they’ll just nick you - for anything.

Was it opportunistic or was he led to believe that he was on for it and misread the situation? Are you the chap who tries to convince the forum about 'loveable rogues' or is that someone else? Does it also beggar belief that, say, a man who runs a haulage and removal company might be a rapist? Edited February 17 by Casta
