This of course is what our Government has been waiting for they were never going to be the first country to pass this bill it will be another copy and paste job.    That is supposing it gets passed in parliament over the water the Lords will no doubt savage it as all those useless Bishops headed by Welby the weasel will have a load of votes.

The mood in the UK has definitely shifted in favour of assisted dying laws, albeit with disagreement over the safeguards and other parameters within the legislation currently proposed by Kim Leadbeater, Labour MP for Spen Valley. As MPs will be given a free vote, this should hopefully increase the chances of assisted dying legislation seeing the light of day in the UK.

I was also interested to see that "458 out of 650 MPs in the House of Commons who entered the private members' ballot",  with Kim Leadbeater's bill at the top of the list (20 bills) to be debated. Whatever the British public think of their elected representatives, most British MPs actually do something to justify their pay and status. Here, since the last GE, the only successful private member's bill was introduced by Dr Allinson – the Assisted Dying Bill. At the other end of the 'do something' spectrum, Stu Peters tends to unleash his feelings about the net-zero ambitions (which are largely dictated to us by the UK), but what has he done to persuade the IOMG to change course on its carbon reduction ‘strategies’?

The chorus of supporters of the IOMG's decision to outsource healthcare to a third party (Manx Care and their for-profit sub-contractors) seem to be in favour of our politicians not interfering in the day-to-day running of our NHS. If privatisation of public services is a good policy model, why not also outsource Education, etc, to private companies? Why not disband the DfE and let, say, the CoC deal with all of the big business decisions/ issues? IMHO, the paucity of any meaningful independent legislation under the current Government raises questions such as - what do our politicians do, what are their personal practical contributions to society, and what are they personally good at?
