Local Authorities

Recommended Posts

The turnout for yesterday’s election in Ramsey was 18.6%.      This complete apathy in politics by the general public is scary there were four candidates which is good for a local authority but why is there such disinterest by the general public ?

Nobody cares about local politics apart from when the rates go up and the bins aren’t emptied. We need LGR and get rid of local government but the issues is that IOMG likely won’t do any better or more efficient job.

Local politics is the same as national politics and people have realised that you cannot trust a word any of them say.

It’s just a club for some to join with connections in the right places.

Disillusionment with the whole process leading to the belief that regardless of who they vote or don't vote for, nothing will change?

This is hidden away on government website and looks dull.

It's time for the people responsible for holding elections got into the 21st century.

There has been a lot of publicity regarding this election all the candidates have been on MR and the Ramsey notice board I don’t know what else they can do.    I wonder how many 16 yr olds voted ?

According to this all young people are taught politics at primary and secondary level.

Not a bad rent. Shouldn't stay empty for long

It was very popular under the previous tenant, and has definitely been missed down there. I hope you are right and someone quickly takes it on.

When you can get into office automatically if no-one else stands it's hardly conducive to democracy is it? I'd rather see a seat remain vacant until there a minimum of two candidates.

Likewise, no matter who we vote for, the same mandarins are still behind the scenes pulling the strings. Maybe there ought to be term limits for senior officials say 10 years in the role with a planned succession in the last 12 months.

Otherwise it's the same old shit, different face.
