OK, so you notice that your neighbour is mowing his lawn for the third time this week, you catch him by the lawn clippings, he's tearful, his wife is studiously ignoring him, the Kids look the other way when he tries to engage with them!

He's obviously devastated, explains that he has lost his job in the CS., 20 years service, he doesn't know what he will do, he feels that he is not a proper husband and father as he cannot provide for his Family!

....but he was just a drain on the public purse, he deserves what he got and to hell with him and his sensitivities!!!!

Tell him there are plenty of jobs around, but he may have to work to earn a living.

Tesco's a dynamic and profitable company. Lots of opportunities for hard workers.😃

With all these price rises from Government Departments from raising kids bus fares to road tax, licences, Civic amenities, etc I would surmise the Treasury at some point has told every department to save money, make cuts, whatever….and they being the great civil service have taken the easy option of raising prices instead of causing pain or extra work in their departments.  The instructions should have been to save money without increasing costs now that would have been a challenge.    One that the business world faces every day.

Might be just a comedy rumour, but I heard one of the Digital DED bods was not allowed to buy the coffees at a meeting last week due 'cost cutting'.

Sounds entirely plausible to me.  More staff, massive pensions, various multimillion pound follies and failures, but it's the coffees that get cut back!

The first question on Tynwald Order Paper April 16th is from Julie Edge MHK asking about 'fiscal responsibility' (balancing income and expenditure) and 'financial disciplne' ( taking control over money).

Let's see what our Chief Minister's response is.

It will probably be very similar to the responses she received in respect of her concerns over untrammelled growth in Govt headcount; "It's all fine and under control, nothing to worry about, nothing to see here".

At least Manx Care has a Cost Improvement Programme and a target to save millions each year-which they have done.

I take it this is said in jest, the only way for them to save money is to fook off and stop draining £3,000,000 +(and it seems to be growing) from the health budget

No seriously. The Financial Director has to report in detail at every Board meeting and they have made savings in agency and bank staff etc.

. 'March Board Meeting minutes. 'The Cost Improvement Plan had performed very well and the target had increased target to £7.5 from £6.4m during the month. Bank and agency spend had also been helped by recruiting substantive staff which has also helped workforce stability. Agency spend was £2m less than last year and all agency posts were regularly reviewed and agency staff were only employed in areas considered very fragile.'

When does our Chief Financial Officer have to appear before a committee and justify his spending of £386,000,000?

So he could work as a gardener - has his own mower and plenty of time.

AKA the real world.

The problem is that for years the IoM lived in a VAT-funded bubble that was largely removed from the real world and  far too much of Govt and its employees are now overtly reluctant to, or incapable of realising and letting go of the pink, fluffy, puffed-up, surreal existence they lived during these times.

They simply expect everybody else to endlessly stump up in their febrile attempts to maintain this position, despite it being completely unsustainable.

The usual prepared waffle, noting more. There will be no measurable set of actions or targets, just words.
