That is massively simplistic, and you must know it?

It is much more nuanced than that

Higher personal allowance.

Lower top rate.

That's not true. In the UK the inheritance tax threshold is £325k. That's the price of many more or less entry level houses.

But there are all sorts of allowance which means that less than 4% of estates actually paid any inheritance tax in 2020-21.  It's just one of those things that the Tory papers try to pretend affect everyone when they really only affect the very well-off.

Last time we checked electricity prices were lower here than the UK

You only need to travel off Island to go to restaurants off Island

I’m sure this months cut in take home salary due to increase in Tax, will have a negative impact on Restaurants and eating out, as people look to have to save even more money.

Depends on your income, the busy places like 1886, jaks, Barbary, McDonald’s etc will see no difference whatsoever, places like nags head, Albert, market etc will be busy as most in these will be below any tax threshold if they work.

Those in between may have to up their game. Also electricity & gas prices are falling, it’s starting to get warmer so not so much heating on , benefits are up, child benefits are up, pensions are up etc so it’s not all doom & gloom as the anti government brigade make out.

I've been seeing the impact on my local pubs for some time now, evenings busy around paydays for monthly salaried workers but on the run up to those paydays it's noticeably quieter. And many of those pubs don't even bother opening early in the week now, Wednesdays are the earliest; there was a time when they were opening 7 days.

The cost of living is definitely impacting, there's less "impulse" socialising, rather people are conserving their disposable for planned nights out.

Just wait until the min wage rise hits H&B pubs and prices jump again too
