cissolt
30 buses cancelled due to 'Operational reasons' lack of drivers and prior private commitments taking precedence over everyday folk. https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/a-number-of-bus-services-cancelled-today/
A fool and his money.....
Probably waiting for enough bus drivers to relocate to the island so that we don't have to train any locals.

Maybe the thought was why cancel scheduled services so that the cruise passengers can be transported somewhere? Why should not the buses serve scheduled routes and local coach companies serve the cruise passengers? Some years ago while I worked on the MER, when a cruise ship group were planned to be on a scheduled service, the crews were told block ordinary fare paying touristy people from getting on the tram until the cruise ship people were on board - and if it was then full, too bad. That did not seem like a good idea to me, although you might say that money is money. It's just like being kicked off a flight because the airline has sold the same ticket to someone else.

And you're the only one that moans when they run at a loss.

Gladys
The bizarre thing, if this is true, is that public service is being reduced so the public service can compete with the private sector. Didn't the leccie showroom close because it was inappropriate for a public service to compete with the private retailers?

Fred the shred
I didn’t think there as a cruise ship in today. There is however a lot of Covid around. Open to correction on first remark the second I know to be true.

They are paid to provide an essential public service not to steal business of taxi companies and coach operators.
Numbnuts
Two things , there’s not a cruise ship in today is there ? And secondly leccie showrooms did shut because of issues but they were selling items below cost for years just to allegedly provide a service . It was very wrong as independents couldn’t complete . Bit like the mini buses in the North and the difficulties it’s causing taxis up there.
