Fred the shred Posted September 9 Share Posted September 9 Perhaps the reason that the busses are short staffed is down to Covid which is certainly on the increase and they don’t want to fuel panic . Bernard Moffatt for successfully negotiating drivers wages to being higher than a Nurse, and then Ian Longworth for going in heavy handed once the scandal came to the public’s attention. Now we have fewer people willing to take on the responsibility for the lives of dozens on passengers when earning not a lot more than some pimply student flipping burgers in McDonalds..simple. That is the answer from the DOI today it is a pity this explanation and reason took so long to surface unless it took them all weekend to think it up. The only thing on the job centre website is for a bank Driver - no information of course, just a URL for jobtrain ad (beats me why they can't just put in a link). If you do manage to copy and paste the URL , you'll discover they're actually looking for a diver 😀. Not sure you can blame Moffatt for doing his job well, more the people he was negotiating with. Longworth on the other hand. I guess you reap what you sow. Ironically enough, after Longworth retired the first time and then came back as a consultant, he also did a bit of driving too. Reputedly getting paid his consultant's hourly rate for driving busses - many times in excess of the drivers he'd claimed were overpaid a few short years before. IoM has simply become a place of survival of the biggest (that mainly being Govt, to the detriment of everybody else), look after yourself, grab as much as you can. More especially and importantly, preservation of entitlement, again with Govt in particular. The whole culture of the place has changed and the most obvious impact has been on public services as we are continuing to see. Yes poor old Mrs Cottier who needed to get to Tesco on Saturday so she can eat this week isn’t a high tipper like the cruise passengers so fuck her. This government and many of its workers are an absolute disgrace. Any more announcements from Bus Vannin or the DOI explaining what really went on behind their “operational issues”? No? Funny that.
