Two-lane
You don't get that much for £1bn these days. Four landing stages and two power stations. A billion ain't worth what it used to be.
NoTailT
Isn't it UP TO 25%? Wasn't the entirety of that funding scheme only like £20mln and to be spread across all of the projects? Or am I confused?

Banker
Any development is better than what’s there, the sales of the apartments will fund a lot of the cost. IF all the development on villiers site, Walpole avenue & Salvation Army site go ahead then that area of Douglas will be transformed. Just need newsons & trafalgar sites going forward.

Meanwhile, in the real world: "Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ have greatly impacted movie theater attendance in recent years. As more people opt for the convenience and affordability of watching movies at home, theaters are seeing a decline in ticket sales and revenue. This shift in consumer behavior has significant implications for the entire film industry, from production to exhibition". It would be great to have a decent cinema over here, although we might then need a greater subsidy for the villa complex.

This is the news article: https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/lord-street-regeneration-plans-revealed/ Ahh but no one knows what they mean/ hope for - the consequences of making government policy on the hoof, IMHO. The tower block is way too tall and not in keeping with the rest of the island. The planning application should reject the high-rise tower block at a minimum. Also, the overall appearence it not in keeping with the rest of the island - to do that it should be 4 stories, not 5. It has so many levels to maximize the project for developers. Money money money as usual. Think building regs and the fire brigade might have something to say too. High rise residential buildings, especially after Grenfell, have a lot of requirements for automatic smoke ventilation from common escape routes, a fire fighting lift to carry equipment to the level below the fire and protected stairwells for the crew to reach that level and gear up. Possibly sprinklers too.

Why should we subsidise a cinema if there will be a decent commercial purpose built multiscreen one? Leave the Broadway for seminars, conferences and MNH presentations.
