Passing Time
https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-police-officer-pay-leading-to-large-numbers-leaving-the-force-692658 Wondered how long it would be before the begging bowl came out. Two-lane
"Mr Davies said the department runs an ‘incredibly tight budget’ an 89-90% of its budget is staffing costs so rising fuel costs can blow the budget." If fuel costs are a small percentage of the total budget, a small increase on a small percentage should not be something that "blows the budget". Albert Tatlock
Surely they could save a lot of money by just using 'Nee' instead of 'Nee Nah' in their sirens? That's a 50% reduction straight away.

cissolt
They seem to be spending millions on drugs wipes and processing with no return. How many negative tests have they done?

It’s being suggested they don’t keep a record of the number of negative tests used. Not sure what the cost of the wipe is. But the big cost is sending away samples after positive results and having the samples tested.
woolley
Decriminalise drugs use. Budget will go a lot further then, not least because there will be far less crime. 6 1

Go all the way .... decriminalised all crimes. No police will be needed.

x-in-man
Too bloody right. If they got out of cars and vans now and then - A) less will be getting bent and busted and a few quid in fuel saved. B) they may start to connect with the public. C) realise what goes on around the streets. Years ago the local police station made a big thing about bobbies walking about. Saw one soon after and we had a chat and a cuppa. Never saw him - or any other copper since. (the garden is now looking lovely lush and thou').

There substantially more expensive so a bigger budget would be needed and also the bigger vehicles are not readily available in electric. DOI recently explained all this to another green warrior, also have you noticed the depreciation on electric vehicles is enormous and in addition manufacturers have been offering massive discounts to get rid of new electric cars. Jackson’s were selling loads of Mercedes at £20kdiscount.

Inspector Sid whatshisname promised all sorts of community policing and there was a presence on the streets in and around the village but it lasted about 18 months I think. My cousin, an ex copper of many years ago, said the best intelligence is garnered from the local community whilst on foot patrol not sitting in the Z-car!

You can't expect people who joined to be bullies and have access to toys to actually do any work. Very unreasonable of you. 1

Drug dealers is very different than testing people sitting in a car who had a smoke the day before. Don't forget they started arresting people weeks before the law was even approved.
