Why?  The island desperately needs more landlords

At the moment they are selling up because of what a nightmare it is becoming to be a landlord and leaving no supply so prices are rising for those who need to rent.

Do you not think the addition fees they have to pay to purchase a property are enough?  Why are they all selling up and leaving a supply and demand nightmare of it is so lucrative?

Absolutely nowhere needs more landlords. What everywhere needs is housing prices to come down so people can buy them and live in them.

Ok.  Tell that to people who don’t want to buy or who can’t buy and who need to rent.

Whats the issue with the tax by the way?  Landlords already pay more than an owner occupier when buying a property

You'd have to remove the proportion that don't want to buy because it's too expensive from those numbers, and those who can't buy because it's too expensive. Wonder what's making it so expensive. Could it be speculators treating homes as an investment and buying them up and pricing out people who actually want to live in them?

I told you what's wrong with the tax. Being a slumlord is still possible. It shouldn't be.

Landlords are upset because their once lucrative  and easily managed profits, often illegal,  are becoming increasingly more difficult through rules and regs.

More Landlords???

More rentals, yes, to ease people into the property market, but not,,,,,,,,,,,

Mr and Mrs Bloggs to use their combined, above average incomes, to buy up off plan houses from the 'sale' market that deprives younger couples fro getting those houses at the developers market price.

Many of those houses are not declared as rental, or insured as rentals, exposing the renter to risk of their belongings and homeless.

Any evidence of that?

Dont forget that mr and mrs blogs have already paid thousands of pounds in a premium straight to government to be able to buy that house in the first place over a local couple

Some of the schools have smaller classes than KWC and you pay £20k Pa there!

after the UK general election you are likely to be paying 20%  vat on the private  school fees which I guess might include nursery and pre school as well , problem with our bean counters in government they done know the difference  between  cost and value  , and I can find no one in the local community who says closing rural schools  is not detrimental to young children living in a remote rural community , there are far softer targets in government then taking £ 3 million from small primary schools , I would think even the  hardest of Tynwald members will vote to  kick out the  closures   in the report , and Julie will be left with egg on her face

Daphne views. Perhaps she could use some of the £40m climate funds to cover the cost savings her department needs

It seems to me she is thinking of the next general election. She won’t be popular if she closed Dhoon School.

It’s also a good test of CM Cannans willingness to solve the islands financial difficulties, which he has failed miserably.

Edge has been Gallery playing on the subject of closure of eight schools as well.  She would have closed them she says thank god she is no longer in charge.   Roll on the next election and we can get rid.

So has Chris Thomas and Professor Ashford.
