Rationalization of primary schools

I think Dhoon school is probably the best situated school, in the foothills of Barrule surrounded by fields full of sheep and cattle. Abundance of fresh air. What’s not to love about being schooled in such an environment. They need to think out the box here and close these inner city schools and bus the kids to Dhoon. It’ll change the whole psyche of these urban kids for the better.

"In an inter-jurisdictional comparison of the 2022-2023 school year, the Isle of Man's average funding

per pupil was the lowest among all examined regions, standing at £5,639. When examining similar socio-economic locales such as Jersey and Guernsey, the disparity becomes more pronounced.

Despite parallels in population size and rurality, Jersey's average per pupil expenditure nearly doubles

that of the Isle of Man at £10,499.

Guernsey's Secondary and Grammar schools exhibited a comparable trend with a per pupil spend of

£10,098 in 2016. Given the intervening years, current expenditure in Guernsey likely surpasses that of

the Isle of Man when factoring in inflation. Larger jurisdictions such as Wales and England had a per

pupil expenditure of £6,773 and £7,160, respectively, while Scotland topped the list at over £8,500."

Doesn't pass the sniff test with such a large disparity. Jersey 22 accounts report teachers and lecturers at £55m salary, in IOM pay discussions it was stated a 1% increase would cost £500k so circa £50m teacher wage bill. Would expect England & Wales less with the significantly higher salaries IOM teachers receive.

Can rarely compare the headline figures across jurisdictions as the accounting within Departments/organisations varies massively (e.g. some will be managing estate, some won't)

Agreed. DESC uses some shared services for maintenance of buildings etc
