Horse tram tracks will need grinding after corroding while in storage

Already discussed at some length on the Prom thread when Ashford put the question in.  (I'm pointing to it as there was some useful info in there, including about the £70 K needed to clean the rest of them up).  There was some scepticism that they even needed cleaning - though after 9 years on the Quay now, there may not be much of them left.

But use keeps the rust down?

It does. But if you think about it they rust away all the time. The trams just wear the rust off. Accumulated rust actually protects from further corrosion to some extent.

It's all a fuss about nothing. They will last over 100 years whatever. There is so much metal in them.

Well, 40 years according to the reply.  Yes, to an extent it is a fuss about nothing, but that it took a Keys question to find out where they were and their condition, ain't great.

It is just another tack (many tacks serve the purpose of one nail) in the coffin of public trust.

Has it not been a roundabout way of keeping the spotlight on the fact that this rail stock has been purchased but not used ie maintaining the pressure about the Prom not being to the spec. that was agreed and promised.

The DOI don't have a great record of storage of vehicles and equipment anyway, their depots are full of stuff rusting away in the elements.

The yard doesn't appear to match planning either. Unless rail store means left to the elements.
