Most promenades have walls not railings including on the Isle of Man eg Port Erin, peel, Ramsey, PSM, Gansey, Castletown so no sure why everyone whines about it, let’s see what finished wall is like. DOI aren’t constructing it, it’s tooms bros, part of Martey Downeys group.

Agree, sort of. Don’t faint.

New wall should be, a. higher,  and, b. on the landward side of the walk way. There should regular gaps with grooves and shuttering boards, stop planks or guard doors,  to be fitted in and closed in advance of forecast high tides and onshore winds..

That’s standard in many places. Morecambe, South Shore Blackpool, Cleveleys to Rossall to Fleetwood.

Presumably at one time the railings on Douglas promenade were on top of a wall, and they were there to stop people falling some distance down to the beach. Since then the beach has done more encroaching than a professional football player during a penalty kick. I predict that the beach will continue its progress, although there must be a height limit somewhere.

You'd trust DBC/DOI to do that?

Oh yeah I guess so. Another fail awaits surely.

Wasn't that what was proposed on a different section when Thomas was minister and they released the 'masterplan' (with the various patterns on the pavement):

It does not seem to be available on there but there was a fair amount of discussion at the time.

The height will be limited by the level of the highest tide.
