So far the Isle of Man Post Office Amazon contract seems to be very reliable and quick. If Manx Independent Carriers are upset, perhaps they should have provided a better service when they had the chance.

It should also be remembered that IoMPO are on a stringent initial "probationary" period with Amazon and as such are frantically prioritising Amazon deliveries over the normal stuff too though, including letters.

And of course all those Amazon packages are tracked, so they will have the data (and pictures) to show exactly how long they took to hit the doorstep.  While the rest of us can just complain that a birthday card arrived six days late from Peel.

Amazon are playing hardball with the delivery time targets and successes. If IOMPO don't meet those targets during the trial period, Amazon will look elsewhere for a delivery partner. As such, Amazon parcel and package work is taking priority over all else.

Letters priority took a back seat some time ago anyway in favour of general parcel work which is more profitable.

If you keep spouting this information without providing sources why should we believe you?

It’s definitely correct though….well according to the word of our postie….and it does appear to be the case from experience too.

for example….my wife has a couple of magazine subscriptions and this week she received two weeks worth…one on time and the others a week late.

hey ho…don’t get many important letters myself…..so prioritise my Amazon deliveries please!

I'm not forcing you to believe me, feel free to make your own enquiries. 🤷‍♂️

But ask any postman and they'll tell you the same thing.

The golden egg of Amazon which is running at just or less than profit (however they never costed in the return of pallets) has to go out regardless.

If both of the above bolded bits are factual, it is very galling to a private business when the public sector decides to undercut you supported by the taxpayer. Ask taxis, coach operators.........

Thats not exactly true though, previously there was not any local couriers for the Isle of Man area it was just split between Hermes, Royal Mail and Dpd, ect.

Isle of Man post office must have gone directly to Amazon with a proposal to become to sole delivery partner for the Isle of Man which presumably involves organising there own transport from Amazon warehouses to Heysham Port.

I think Manx Independent Carriers could have proposed this opportunity too however were likely happy as they were knowing they were getting a decent chunk of the amazon parcels already.

This does leave the door open to Manx Independent winning the contract back off the post office eventually in the future depending on cost and reliability. Therefore it is understandable the Isle of Man post are going the extra mile during this trial.

Yes but as a Taxpayer it is pleasing to see that IOM Post are being proactive to win some business back from the Private sector who, at the end of the day, have been gazumping IOM Post for years….what is ok for the private sector to do is ok for the public sector to do.

The private sector can’t have it all their own way….its called competition…. And IOM Post are still needed for letters, so to subsidise letters (which run at a loss I guess) they need a decent level of parcel work.

They're a public service, that's why they are public sector. The fact is that delivering Amazon parcels is not a public service - it could and was done perfectly well by the private sector, there's no need for it to be a public service.

Delivering letters on the other hand would probably not get done if left to the private sector, or if I would, it would be a lot less frequent and cost a fortune. This is why the post office is a public service.

Now, whether delivering letters is worthy of a public service in this day and age is another argument. It's probably not - but our politicians are nothing if not spineless, so are too scared to make that decision and so try to turn it into a business instead.

Indeed, I've noticed that the next day deliveries are actually being delivered next day again.
