Gizo
16 hours ago, Laxey said: Well….I order off Amazon if it’s cheaper than buying local….end of. I usually have 3 or 4 parcels from Amazon a week….cheaper products than buying local….all sorts of stuff, fraction of the price of local outlets. Quite happy for anyone else to pay full price, not me. This weeks parcels not marketplace sellers….sold and fulfilled by Amazon. And this is the problem. Furthermore who needs to buy stuff 3 or 4 times per week? It’s baffling. All Chinese shite no doubt too. I get about 2 items a month and I never use Amazon.

It’s simple economics….some examples of my purchases: Andrex 45 rolls = £3.74 per 9 rolls…..Tesco price today £5.10 Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice £12 for 12…..Tesco £23.40 for twelve Flash Speedmop refills £15.64…..equivalent number at Tesco £29.60 Not a Chinese produced item in sight….all with free delivery to my door. As I have said….quite happy for anyone to pay full price….but if I can order cheaper why wouldn’t you? Edited August 17 by Laxey 1

Flash Speed mops are made in the Dominican Republic, Ocean Spray in the USA.
genericUserName
23 hours ago, Kopek said: but a pair of Jeans, say, you can get those here! Jeans have always been difficult to buy on the IOM. Strand St always had a very limited supply at vastly inflated prices. Granted we now have Sports Direct. Does that count as local? They also have a very limited range. Most people buy their clothes online these days. Even in the UK. 23 hours ago, Kopek said: I think the Isle of Mans economy should be as strong as we can make it. Buy local unless it's some oblique item you cannot get here? Keeping a lid on prices is one way in which we can all help the local and national economy. Since that ultimately drives down wage demands. It is the same supply chain whether you buy at a higher price from a shop or online. And the IOM still gets a share of the VAT. Laxey
Is the IOM Post contract with Amazon still being used? had five parcels from Amazon this week…..four delivered by Evri and the fifth should also have been delivered by Evri but was returned damaged…..Evri all delivered late too. Hope the contract with IOM Post hasn’t come to an end already….much better service than Evri.

Derek Flint
What's the average time lag on a 'prime next day' item from Amazon to the IOM?

Before end of August it was either next day or second day. With IoM Post. All orders before 31 August were picked up and delivered by IoM Post with accurate tracking. All orders since have been EVRI. Taking 4/5 days and tracking information is useless

TheTeapot
I reluctantly ordered 5 items from Amazon on Sunday. I'd have had to go to fucking Douglas for three of them, two not for sale in any shops here im aware of. Amazon split the 5 items into 3 deliveries, said they'd all be here Thursday. The one with the post office came Wednesday, the two Evri came today (Friday). There is no choice offered as to who the carrier is. I genuinely try to shop local.

My experience too…..item comes by IOM Post= usually on time and in one piece item comes by Evri= delayed and battered or returned damaged. much prefer iompost and it is a pity you cannot specify carrier! Derek Flint
Makes you wonder if it is a leverage to keep things local? I use it a lot over here for specific brands and regular orders like coffee pods. It's ridiculously fast on occasions but there's loads on the gig economy delivering for them. I’m assuming Amazon split the work, if people complain about Evri then post office will get more business. also see Royal Mail is upping first class stamp to £1.65!!
