IT outage

Looks like the isle of man escaped pretty unscathed, at least publicly.

Curiously only three practices have been affected, although they state that the problem is government wide.

I assumed all GP surgery's are using government IT equipment?  If so, how many other services were affected?

Why has it taken so long for services to be resumed when the supplier has already provided a very simple fix?

The GP’s use a U.K. based system called EMIS as their patient database records system, so no issue with any local computers etc, or the IOM Govt servers - looks more like an EMIS issue with their servers and getting it operational again.

Thanks.  So if this emis is down then wouldn't this affect all GPs and not just the 3 in the report? Or do the other GPs use a different service?

There were others Snaefell surgery, Peel, Laxey etc. It was probably because this was an early report on the day.

EMIS provide the Patient Access software we've had in place on the Isle of Man since 2016 -they're the biggest GP software outfit in the UK and they got hit by the crowdstrike bug.

Don't carry cash anymore they said. Do everything online they said.....go away and become extinct, you dinos who carry money and prefer to deal with people.

And yet one line of dodgy code crashes the world, leaves people unable to pay and stranded around the world and will cost billions to repair.

I don't think it will cost 'billions to repair', but if it did, do you imagine those 'billions' would be in cash?

Indeed, according to one expert, the issue was an update by a cyber security programme. When an update is made, they back-up the system so it can be restored.

You do know that any business that was impacted by this would have been unable to take cash as well during the outage right?

No...some were clever enough to take cash and invoke their business continuity plan of a notepad and pencil.
