Why would they come here? Can't find housing, immigration is overloaded, staff is hard to find, health service is broken, the list goes on.

And they can only get their bins emptied every fortnight.

And if you get caught short anywhere where there are public toilets, dont expect that you might be able to use them because they have card readers on the. Dont think that because you have a card that you might be able to read them.. cos invariably the card readers won't work...and don't be fooled into thinking that if you report it that the card readers don't work that anyone at DCC will do anything about it. Apart from  that that Douglas is great.

We need to play to our strengths and make this the outdoor pursuits capital of the UK. Get a Center Parcs over here and start working with the transport companies to get cheap flights and boat rides. The UK economy is going down so cheaper local holidays could be the way forward.

And if you ever want further evidence of why the Island's economic strategy (if it ever existed other than to support its own pensions) is in tatters, read on.

3/4 of a million pounds of potential income (by surely reasonable estimate) turned away and lost because of a Govt Depts inflexible adherence to conditions required to run the now cancelled rally. And that decision fully supported by the DfE. Let's bear in mind that the organisers would have wanted to run the rally, "but nothing could be worked out in time". So who didn't want the rally to run?

Further proof surely that the DfE and the DOI between them are populated by the biggest collection of self-serving and incompetent cock-noshers ever assembled under one organisational umbrella.

But why? Safety or administrative reasons?

Not publicly known yet it appears but by either, effort should have been made to resolve so the event could run, as it has for years previously. What has changed and why couldn't it have been sorted?

If Govt thinks it's ok to turn away that sort of money then Govt is clearly paying itself far too much for an attitude of "doing nothing is fine". Next thing they'll be telling us that each cruise ship brings in a £750k spend though.

it must bring in more than 750k , the boat fares of the competitors would have been close to that.

That’s the bit that makes me laugh. They forget that they own the SPC now and yes a load of crew and support vehicles on the SPC must be a couple of hundred grand lost easy from their next dividend.

How many cars, support vehicles and team/crew? 50 competitors, 50 support vehicles. Average 4 people per car competing? So, 100 vehicles and 200 people? Even at £500 per vehicle it’s no more £50k.

I reckon £750k is an over estimate. Even after hotels and food.

And government gets nothing out of most of that. What with there being no VAT on the ferry fares ( unless it’s vans/freight ) and 5% on the hotels/accommodation.

What will the costing be, even if there’s only one crash involving hedge reconstruction, carriageway repairs, A&E?
