IOMs economic strategy in tatters?

How many cars, support vehicles and team/crew? 50 competitors, 50 support vehicles. Average 4 people per car competing? So, 100 vehicles and 200 people? Even at £500 per vehicle it’s no more £50k.

I reckon £750k is an over estimate. Even after hotels and food.

And government gets nothing out of most of that. What with there being no VAT on the ferry fares ( unless it’s vans/freight ) and 5% on the hotels/accommodation.

What will the costing be, even if there’s only one crash involving hedge reconstruction, carriageway repairs, A&E?

A competitor at the MGP has complained that his van and trailer plus three passengers is costing £1200 return, that's with a competitor's discount! His Brittany Ferries fare, for a bigger journey is much less!

So 50 of these would be £60k so you're pretty close.

The event insurance pays for damage to hedges, roads, property damage etc.

It's money that we shouldn't be turning away and should be making every effort to attract and accommodate. Hospitality and the private sector is struggling, Govt should be doing everything it can to facilitate, not killing things off. Next thing, we'll have Stu Peters on saying that we're not paying enough tax again. These people invent and maintain bureaucracy to justify their jobs at the expense of all else.

Still pedaling the AI snake oil as our saviour.  Ignore all the red tape, regulations, lack of housing, poor infrastructure and profligate spending.  AI will solve it all.

It seems we'll all get 200 hours of free training on it from the Govt too.

‘One would hope as we go through this journey that we find our own niche and our own unique selling point (USP) to differentiate ourselves from everybody else and that’s where hopefully we’ll see a new service and new part of the economy.’

At least they are willing to admit that they have no idea what the benefit will be and they just assume it will be good and the IOM will be good at it!

And a projected boost of no less than 10% to our GDP.

Is Eddie Teare working with this shower?

Do you think they've got a DED branded random number generator for this kind of stuff?

What happened to the AI Biosphere?

Someone told them what a biosphere is and they realised that there is nothing in this AI strategy that has anything to do with biospheres?  In fact, it's probably the antithesis of a biosphere.

Did I ever say that? Although in the abstract we’re not paying enough tax (or spending it wisely enough) to fund the services we demand.

The spending it wisely enough is definitely accurate, we only need to look at the Liverpool landing stage, the jurby airfield plans and this new AI madness to see that.

Here you go. Although perhaps it might have been better to say that we're not paying it as fast as your lot are squandering it. Or in this instance, turning it away. Perhaps as a DOI member you could offer some clarification, given that the organisers had everything to lose in income, apart from the loss to the general economy, whilst the DOI, as usual, have nothing to lose.

Incidentally, the tax referred to VED which you also advised that only 1/3rd of which was actually spent on the roads.

But it's ok, we know where it's going.

Bit of a stretch from your assertion. Maybe Ringy drives an EV, in which case I was definitely right. Cars should be taxed by weight.
