Albert Tatlock
Ronaldsway was chosen as the main airport for at least the following reasons: Geographic and Climatic Suitability (Ronaldsway has much better weather). Nearest to the bulk of the Population. Historical Development (there was already airfield infrastructure there) and it would have been far more expensive to build a new terminal at Jurby (and you've seen how good the IOM govt are with new terminals!) Jurby was still required at the time for military use. 1

lfc84
Money would be better spent on a runway extension at Ronaldsway and upgrading ILS at Ronaldsway

Suspect it is to keep it available should it be needed in the future.

Gladys
7 minutes ago, Omobono said: then that should be quite clear in the plan and not some politicians pipe dream But the main point of an area plan is to designate areas for certain uses, residential, open areas, recreational, industrial, etc. That does not mean, say, residential development will happen, just that it can happen in the area designated. There then needs to be someone wanting to develop and make a planning application. It surely is just a strategic option should it be needed at the moment. If it is given over for development that option is gone forever. Good foresight, IMHO, but we just need to watch out for 'mission creep'.
x-in-man
When are they putting the helipad at The Sound? No chance of getting a bus down there now and that’s the only form of transport left for some of our MHKs who may want to see where it actually is. Jurby is a great place for an airport - on the train line, easy walking for the locals, regular bus service … oh, wait.

Two-lane
Planning for the future is a good idea. They also need to plan for expansion of the prison. Maybe the plan is to move the prison back to Douglas.

Braddan was the consultants' preferred option at the time until the Beautiful People of Braddan and Douglas rebelled at which point Jurby was suddenly selected and any amount of justification produced for that selection.
