Racists can’t buy petrol

What is strange about it?  Sounds like a good, responsible employer to me.

Also, your thread title is a little strange, it is one racist not a blanket ban, until one of them open their mouths and confirms it.

Well as it appears only a crime has been committed according to EVF. So it’s a bit odd really. You’d think the police would be putting something like this on Tweetbeat or something rather than a rather odd story like this appearing on 3fm.

Aren't the license holders of licensed premises allowed to ban individuals?

What makes you think it’s the police. It’s a press statement from the employer. They’ve got the guy on CCTV and they’re banning him from their stores.

EVF isn’t the only petrol retailer.

Its a bit like pub watch banning people, or Tesco, if someone behaves in an un aceptable way  in their premises.

See my comment below yours. Any retailer can say “ we won’t serve you, in any of our stores “. Doesn’t need a court order or conviction.

Yes, but the EVF statement refers to greater powers to protect their staff from abuse.

Gone are the days when you can abuse staff with alacrity, eh?

ETA,it was a rhetorical question.

Yes, the new licensing act amendments have tidied up the drunkenness in public, disorderly behaviour and other offences on licensed premises by, mainly, upping the penalties and increasing powers to imprison. Courts are taking a hard line. Bit like covid. There may be an overlap in clientele..

But they don’t know who the individual is who they are banning do they from that? How can you ban an unnamed racist who may or may not have committed an actual offense and who might look like someone on a CCTV image?

You capture a screen shot from the CCTV, show it to all staff, put it in the ban book. Don’t actually need a name. If they paid by card or e-payment they’ll have a name. They’ve also got the taxi details, and, subject to GDPR, it wont be hard to track him down.

Why does a crime have to have been committed? EVF or any other shop for that fact have no obligation to serve anyone. If they feel an employee has been spoken to in a certain manner then they are within their rights to ban the person responsible

So it’s a fairly pointless announcement then? Some unnamed person best not come back if they look vaguely like someone whose image was captured on CCTV as they’re banned! Surely this is the sort of thing that should be on Tweetbest? Have you seen this person? Or do you know anything about this incident etc? How do you ban someone who looks like someone who you caught on CCTV who may have said something racist?

Far from a pointless announcement if it dissuades others from being obnoxious to staff.  Also publicly announces their support to staff.
