A fool and his money.....
So, with the labour government across planning to add VAT @ 20% to private school fees from the 1st January, and with us in a VAT agreement with them which means we can't differ ( see hospitality call to arms thread), are KWC going to have to charge VAT? If so what effect will this have on them/ other secondary schools on the island?

Gizo
Kwc is doomed. Teachers leaving in numbers, no students, fees going through the roof. it’s prime for a government bail out, somehow.

Banker is your man, he is the resident expert on both KWC and education in general, he’ll have all the finer details.
x-in-man
'Boarding schools – Following calls for clarity and concern from 32 boarding schools, it has been reported that they would not be subject to this potential VAT charge. It is at this point unclear the specific definition of this exemption.' 'Partial exemption –.. Currently, where private schools support children with certain special needs, there is an exemption opportunity. Similarly, private schools offering additional charitable or welfare services like pre-school education can qualify for exemption in certain circumstances. It remains to be seen whether any changes will affect these two cases, but if we do see any, it will make any partial exemption calculations even more complicated. However, a specialist advisor can assist with calculating where you stand and identifying your correct VAT status.' https://www.azets.co.uk/news-insights/articles/proposed-vat-on-independent-school-fees-expected-knock-on-impact/ 'However, a specialist advisor can assist with calculating where you stand and identifying your correct VAT status.' - which looks like an opportunity for some creative accounting firms to offer their services. So - It doesn't look like it's just a case of an extra 20% on top of it all.

It's a part of making the IoM more 'broad brush' attractive even if it doesn't add anything to you or I directly.

Yes, it may put off more rich people coming to live here to pay little or nothing in tax.
