And in MGP, many of them are old enough that they didn't need a license when they started out in the 1940s. Possibly 🤣

It's becoming rarer for there to be older riders at the MGP, at one time you got to 40 and you were out. Then age discrimination came to be a thing, now it's going back, newcomers must be under 45 and older riders must demonstrate that they are fit to race.

Doesn't seem unreasonable. It should apply to anyone.

You need a certain fitness to control a powerful motorbike on a 37 mile course.

Riders may know the risks, but the organisers need to deal with the hazards that occur with too much regularity and put in danger other competitors, marshals, emergency workers and members of the public.

These people shouldn't be being put at risk.

Genuine question Max. What do they have to do to demonstrate they are fit to race?

They need to pass a medical, plus an IoM specific medical is being introduced this year, testing bloods, electrolytes etc. They must have proven their ability over the previous and current year at other racetracks etc.

Thanks. My feeling with this is that you can pass a medical but as time passes, all body functions gradually deteriorate. To name but a few; eye sight, peripheral vision, depth perception, hearing, balance, thought processing, response times all get marginally worse over time.

Team Sky in cycling was all about marginal gains and the sum of these marginal gains was to  have a significant advantage. I see the same analogy with marginal losses.

There are very few sports that people are at the top of their game after 40 years old for this very reason. They take part in Masters events or retire. Not so with the TT and MGP. I'm not convinced blood tests are any type of accurate predictor either.

"Please ensure that the roads have opened before entering the road, this can be by observing normal traffic flow, reputable media outlets "

This is the equivalent of saying "Tune your wireless to the Home Service for the latest news".

But it is now the 21st Century, and every man and his dog has got a smart phone, loaded with apps. We have a £100,000 per year AI person, but no way to instantly know if the roads are open or closed.

You sound like you're in Isle of Man Government, "let's get our £100k AI guy spending a month on rolling out a system to tell 5000 people whether a road is shut 5 minutes earlier 20 times a year, #AI #success"

Thought the £100k AI role got shelved for now?

I was just about to say that.  I went to one of those AI roadshow things last week and it was clear that, while they had gone through the recruitment motions, they had decided not to recruit anyone.  Why, wasn't quite clear, they were also claiming they had £5 million to spend.  Maybe they couldn't find anyone who was bullshitty enough, though that seems unlikely.

Forget about Reagan's "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" being frightening.

That statement above from someone in the IoM gov. is way out in front.
