There's a long inset piece on pages 31 &32 (41-2 of pdf) of the UN Report on the King Gaming fiasco, with more information on the Far east connections than have appeared locally.  It's also interesting that they make the point:

Further examination of GC 1’s online presence prior to the raid reveals only a very simple website designed with limited functionality serving as a landing page, consistent with shell iGaming businesses used as fronts by criminal groups for laundering of criminal proceeds

as some did on here.

There are other mentions as well.

Yes, I read that as well and remember people referring to the minimal number of hits the webpage had.

Unfortunately,  the version of the report I downloaded to my mobile does not have a search function to find other references to the IOM.

Philippe is great. There's a new documentary on illegal gambling and match fixing on German TV that has just been released, which has him in it (and yours truly, although I do have more of a face for radio). He's one of the few investigative reporters our industry has and of which it needs more.

It’s worth posting the link as the report isn’t that easy to find

https://www.unodc.org/roseap/uploads/documents/Publications/2024/TOC_Convergence_Report_2024.pdf

Page 41 onwards. As government has already said definitely no damage to the IOMs global reputation at all.

Recently the scam compounds have been identified in Dubai, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Peru and according to a BBC World Services reports referencing Chinese court documents, the Isle of Man - believed to be the first time a pig butchering operation has said to have been based in a western country.

At least we were first. Well done Manxies! 🇮🇲

Wait for the next press release that we have been nominated for the best small pig butchery island in the world.

All joking aside though - pretty shameful the whole thing. Hope it turns a corner, but it's a definitely a black mark against the IOM. Duped by flashing money and glitzy plans.

No, all joking aside, it is more than shameful, it is horrific.  We pride ourselves in being a caring society. Yet, who knows how many people who have been extorted, coerced and, potentially abused, have we  had here, and ignored?

But we were not on the 6 am bus.

We should maybe form a self-help group...perhaps call it "Manx Taxpayers".
