So there are rules, though small signs under a certain specified size probably are exempt. And there are different, stricter rules for illuminated signs, which will affect neighbours more. But because most signs are uncontroversial, the power is normally devolved to local authorities, rather than Planning Committee and most get approved pretty quickly - this one only took six weeks. It's in the middle of a field nowhere near any properties.

The thing about rules is they are supposed to apply to everyone. And given that the purpose of a sign is to be seen, it's not surprising that there should be rules regulating how they look. As I said most such things are uncontroversial and approved automatically.
Kopek
Years ago, put up a sign, aluminium frame, double sided, illuminated on a main road, was refused permission, appealed, offered to paint the frame black, passed! Got the impression a bit of black paint was all the excuse they needed to pass it? Which is good?

And who is the current Chairman of planning ? no conflict of interest there then , unless he has declared an interest too many personalities in local politics these days

Are you sure, has he ever been to Goodison Park. he would just say that, in the Manx Arms. Last orders in Manx Arms is ten minutes , time enough for three to be put away. They don’t play there yet. Still use the stadium but got the land a few years ago. Have built a clubhouse over the last two years and pitch has a footprint but not ready for a few years to let it settle . Their pitch and site is literally just above DHSOB ‘s pitch. And Rob has , I believe , been very supportive of the whole project . Edited September 9 by Numbnuts 1
Gizo
Is blackberry lane in Onchan or Douglas?
Roger Mexico
5 minutes ago, Gizo said: Is blackberry lane in Onchan or Douglas? The road itself is all in Onchan but the fields are split between the two. DHSOB's pitch is part in Onchan and part in Douglas, which seems appropriate as the school now is as well:
