Well the problem is that both will be looking to the same people for doing casual driving, so if someone is unavailable for one they will be for the other.  Last Saturday's probably was done by Tours, but it was a small ship and they probably only need one coach and the two private hires I saw were other groups.

But, as others have said, the basic problem is they're not paying drivers enough and not treating them with enough respect.  And that's a problems that's been building for some time.

Emphasis mine... private companies react and will up rates if can't find drivers (which feeds into the market rate charged to cruise companies)

Absolutely. Add to that they're not training them, or not training anywhere near enough.

It's like the ATC debacle all over again.

They think they can just throw a few grand at any professional they want to move over here, while training locals to do anything, even jobs we're desperately short of, remains woefully under funded, if it's even funded at all.

I don’t think many or any of the Onchan busses were affected so why Edge is getting excited is just grand standing she really needs to calm down .   It is a bad situation which could be sorted if decent wages were paid to drivers.    Tesco are paying 17 yr olds nearly £12 an hour bus drivers have a more responsible job and should be paid accordingly.

Cruise ships were serviced by qualified driver office staff according to the press release.

Stu, I do hope that you are simply stating that this was what your department released to the press, and not suggesting that you are in agreement with the constant lack of transparency from your department. If I am wrong, I have to say I thought you were better than that.

Don’t worry folks as our dear leader, is making a set piece speech at the IOMG Conference on this particular subject. Apparently it called strategic ambitions. I’m afraid IOMG couldn’t run a bath without making a complete mess of things. More glorified dick waving, showboating and grandstanding but will deliver very little - certainly not sorting out the problems.

You can understand why the bus driver aren’t working overtime, overtime usually time and a third nowadays, that’ll make it 22% tax band plus ni so basically your evenings and weekends being paid your basic rate, who’s doing that. ?  if you’re an office staff, course you’re doing overtime as your massive salary at overtime rate will be considerably more.
