2112
Nice article on Energy FM today from a tour operator with a unit at the Sea Terminal, bemoaning the state of the building. A YouTube video was included, illustrating broken windows, no paint and rust. Granted the island is fcuked, spends money like it’s going out of fashion - but not on the right things or priorities. Remember Charles Guard video a couple of years ago which caused a stir. The DoI which has its offices at the Sea Terminal haven’t covered themselves in glory either, overseeing dereliction. Surely remedial action could have been taken, without it being a 24 carat all singing and dancing production number, costing hundreds of thousands, taking forever to complete. 6
Gladys
Agreed, but sure this will be covered in the conference!
2112
In all honesty I appreciate the island is skint and IOMG prefers to waste taxpayer funds on get rich quick schemes and other useless ideas. If they made an effort to focus on one area at a time, so it’s tidied up, refreshed and doesn’t look an eyesore. In time they could move on to another section, in stages.

Crazy thing is it won't (or shouldn't) cost a fortune.

Just cleaning and painting the bus stops and shelters would be a start. Travelling by bus feels like a second-class experience.

This is the sort of thing prisoners on work parties shove doing as well as those sentenced to community service.

A big or even medium-sized capital programme to have the same effect (after much disruption) would be approved. The boring tasks of everyday maintenance and replacement and refreshment are beneath the notice of our executive elite. Think how much effort it took for the Airport to get the decayed, barely functioning baggage trollies replaced - a classic 'first impression' item. And with outsourcing, there usually aren't the staff who can be asked to carry out even the smallest non-standard maintenance with much contract renegotiation.
asitis
The airport has seen no maintenance for as long as I can remember, prefering instead to let stuff go to rack and ruin then buy another !
thommo2010
Honestly can't ever remember a time when those windows weren't smashed or the metal not rusty
A fool and his money.....
So true, Ronaldsway and the lemon squeezer are both very beautiful buildings, it really wouldn't take much to keep them looking their best. I think the problem is, most senior civil servants or politicians don't really care anymore. They're out for what they can get. 5

Talking of the airport… firstly, they have done maintenance (on the women’s toilets- albeit the new locks aren’t on straight, but at least you can shut the door now!) in spite of this huge improvement, it’s absolutely totally embarrassing for people to have to shove their bags in stupid cages before leaving the island, two people (returning to the UK) were made to pay the £47.83 excess on their luggage (never mind the 20 stone geezer in the queue behind them) this makes the Isle of Man (and its people) looks like petty minded money grabbing fools - someone needs to have a word. Edited Sunday at 05:35 PM by 2bees And £12.30 for 2 pints of flat warm lager is not ok either!
Albert Tatlock
I'd make a good impression if I took over the DOI... ...I'd sack all the management... ..."Just like that!"

Economic gravity is increasing its pull, it can be seen and felt and the reaction is to preserve present and near-future entitlements.
Amadeus
Luckily the rest of Douglas City looks splendid and makes up for it. 1
Kopek
Isn't there asbestos in the sea term??? If so, maintenance would not be straightforward? Anyway, all this moaning means they'll demolish it and build new for 65 million squids!!!😁 ... and they'll be spending millions on JPWs custom lanes. 😆
