Tinpot
Thoughts on this one. The overwhelming Facebook feedback is a big fat no thank you. https://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/theatre-wants-pews-with-booze
HeliX
Suppose it depends what's being shown? Big difference between Oliver and one of the reproductions of e.g. Allo Allo or Blackadder...
The Voice of Reason
Why on earth not? I have been to theatres across where it was just part of the evening. Quite civilized and much nicer than going to the cinema and having to endure the rustling of people crunching their popcorn.

Shake me up Judy
Stupid idea. I'd sack the idiot who's proposing it. They obviously haven't a clue. A fortune was spent by the taxpayer on the upholstery and carpet in the Gaiety. It would be like the old Palace cinema in no time. 2

Because there's a difference between a play/performance people are expected to be a bit rowdy at and one that's supposed to be fairly serious.
Harry Lamb
There is already a problem in theatres generally of people not knowing how to behave according to multiple reports. This idea is very foolish. 3

The Voice of Reason
Just now, HeliX said: Because there's a difference between a play/performance people are expected to be a bit rowdy at and one that's supposed to be fairly serious. So you can’t enjoy a gin and tonic whilst enjoying a “serious” production, say a Shakespeare play but you can if you go to see a production of “ The Full Monty” Or have I got that the wrong way round? There is plenty of people who would go to the theatre to see both types of performances. Doesn't mean for one type they would start chucking their drink around and ripping up their seats, and sit quietly for the other. My behaviour, for example, is not determined by what sort of theatre production I am watching but more by the type of person I am. I for one would like to enjoy a ( overpriced, no doubt) glass of red whilst enjoying the show. Adding to the coffers of the venue. If this really a concern the; perhaps the Gaiety should not put on performances which they think might encourage the “ rowdy” behaviour
Happier diner
They should allow it. Life is not a rehearsal. 😂
Albert Tatlock
I'm not allowed to drink in the bar or auditorium...
A fool and his money.....
My prediction is they will allow it regardless of the opposition. And then they'll whack up the prices at the bar.

Shake me up Judy
Imagine what the state of the auditorium would be the morning after a popular comedian has filled the place. Edited 1 hour ago by Shake me up Judy Duplication
