We've no Idea, because instead of admitting to it , they try and save face by saying a service is "at risk" meaning they haven't got anyone to drive it.

Even when they are asked directly they lie. Remember being told there were no bus cancellations in TT week last year? Turns out there were loads but they thought they'd lie their way out of it.

They routinely post a list of routes “at risk” And then come back and say most of them ran.

He hasn’t got one, he has no data to back up his fabrication

Except a clear picture of a “Private hire” bus that they could resource when they said they had no drivers to honour their public service mandate. But as I said I’m not arguing with the forum idiot so knock yourself out with the mad conspiracy stuff.

How many services were cancelled today?

The crew would have been not available for regular services for a period either side of the private hire, unless there was an incredibly unlikely coincidence of timing.

Agreed. And equally if you send out a press release saying that 25 services will likely be affected today people will just stay at home. How many Bus Vannin phone people were working today (Sunday) to tell people if their “at risk” bus service they read about was actually operating or not? And how many people can be arsed standing at a bus stop where there is no guarantee that a bus will arrive at as they’d already been warned the service was at risk? But they managed to put on private hire buses for classic car lovers. Because that’s clearly more important than providing a service to the taxpayers who pay for it.

Does anybody know how many, if any services were actually cancelled today? @Alanbellend seems confused by the question.

You seemed confused by the answer.

No, nobody does, except BV, who seem to prefer to save face by calling cancelled services "at risk" rather than admit they have no-one to drive them.

No doubt they will let us know a number as soon as they have invented one, as they have a history of lying about cancelled services.

I'm waiting for them to trot out the line; "the bus driver shortage is not unique to the IOM, there's a shortage of bus drivers all over the world."

When I was a kid there was an old boy who lived down the road. He'd worked his whole life on the busses, mostly as a driver, but for the last ten or fifteen years of his career he trained bus drivers. That's all he did, full time - at a time when the island's population was a fraction of what it is now and in what we are told were much harder times pre finance sector.

Now we rely on throwing thousands at people to come and live here and don't bother with training.

This government is a shit show.

You haven’t told me.

That's the thing with a public service - there's kinda no point in providing one if the public don't know you're providing it.

If you're going to label a service at risk, you may as well cancel it - nobody will be expecting it to run and so no one will use it.

It's not as if you can take BV's word for it as they're known to cook the books to save face anyway.

The fact they're STILL running private hires while cancelling scheduled public transport services tells you everything.

Yes. They don’t give a crap about the taxpayer funding their losses. It’s all about “revenue” which seems to be stealing money off private businesses who could have provided that shuttle service which would have freed up their drivers.

Did they cancel anything today?
