Or he offered the job to everyone, and they all - including Ashford - declined.

He won't have had any time to do that. But don't forget that he put DOI back on track, sorted the airport, boat and new terminal whilst he was in temporary charge.

I predict Manx Care will be running like clockwork by Christmas.

She’s also been critical of the cuts , to be fair to Hooper and I don’t really like him at least he resigned in protest at the cuts which he has consistently been saying he voted against in Comin with no support. I’m very disappointed in some of the other ministers like JPW, Tim Johnson and Daphne who I thought would stand up against the cuts

Yeah…Tim ‘Don’t worry there’s no way I’ll take a Ministerial job’ Johnson. So he’s reliable then.

There appears to be a common factor in every shit-show that this parish council presides over, from Crogga to our ever diminishing transport links............and the name begins with 'C' and ends in 'n'.

Almost right, it does begin with ‘c’, it includes n, but it ends in ‘t’.

You know what thought did?

I don’t rate either of the above and I find Daffy positively dangerous for the island - the islands equivalent to Ed Milliband …….. and that’s scary!

Not sure about that? He initiated the much fairer universal system we have now and moved it away from a postcode lottery.

I wasn't aware it was postcode lottery, the costs of childcare since this change has increased exponentially.  Many people are paying more for childcare than mortgage or rent.

Private nurseries can cherry-pick and concentrate nurseries in Douglas and Onchan neglecting other parts of the island.

Did Cannan put NHS privatisation in his manifesto? Did any mhk?

Part of the problem is the political system that elects almost all of them as independent and a chief minister that a tiny number of people voted for

Well…here’s my ten pence worth…Hooper has been a poor Health Minister and his smart-arsed public approach, and abrasive social media, won him no friends. I’m unsurprised he’s gone in this latest furore over funding. I won’t miss him. Equally, I can genuinely believe that Cannan sees a big future for more ‘paid for’ health care. Whether this amounts to full-on privatisation I doubt, but never lose sight of the fact that Cannan is a dyed-in-the-wool Tory, and he’s never been, nor ever will be, an NHS loving socialist.

As for the new Minister, post Cannan’s interim, that’s interesting. You’d think he’d promote a ‘seasoned’ Minister from with COMIN to get a grip, but it’s electoral suicide. Ashford would take it (he’s infallible…did you know?) but is Cannan desperate enough to appoint that discredited buffoon? Don’t bet against a LegCo appointee as Minister.

My recollection is that certain nurseries received state funding and others didn’t. If there was one near you, great. If not, tough. That budget was taken and turned into a universal benefit. Much more equitable and effective.

Alf has appointed himself as Health Minister.

In an act of complete humility with no self indulgence or arrogance on display whatsoever - his thought process recently is bewildering and very Collisteresque “how can I possibly make myself look even worse ? That’s the path ill take then”

To be fair to Cannan (he says thorough gritted teeth), it's more  sign that he can't find anyone to do it straight away.  Legally someone has to be DHSC Minister, and if there is no one to do it straight away, it's usual for the Chief Minister to take it on.  Cannan's already been DoI Minister and Minister for Enterprise (twice - and it would have been three times if Hooper hadn't doubled up with DHSC) since he became Chief Minister.

But it doesn't look good.  And you get the feeling he sees himself as Mr Fixit, going in to sort out the mess.  When what he actually does is just whatever the civil servants tell him without question.

Hooper reportedly stated that he thinks Alf wants to privatise the health service.

Of course Cannan wants to privatise the health service. That’s why he forced Manx Care to spend millions on private companies “to cut waiting lists” through vastly overpriced video consultancies and then decided Manx Care had overspent their budget.

Question is, does Hooper have the guts to stand up in public and call Cannan out?

Anyone with half a brain can see exactly what the Temu Toryboy Cannan is about. Which is why the list of MHKs who voted for Cannan reads as the list of MHKs who are less than half-witted.

Nah, it’s very much the other way around with Cannan. The civil servants who do as they’re told get promoted, the ones who don’t get booted.

Why on earth do you think Cannan hand-picked Andy Ralphs to lead the civil service? Ralphs is the intellectual equivalent of shitting in your hands and clapping, but he does as he’s told.
