I can’t imagine vast sums are being spent to bring in a simple piece of legislation

A piece of legislation we don’t need..

If you totted up all the man hours including getting it through the legislative process, its still a good few grand that could be better spent elsewhere.

All the hassles and man hours from shops, banks, government, population messing about with low denomination coins far outweighs the cost of the legislation. Over the years it will make our society as a whole a lot slicker and efficient.

Plus it will bring in the law before UK does, which will give some in governmnet a bit of a hard on.
