Chinahand
Don't know how many of you have wandered out of Shoprite in Castletown to find a set of architect’s drawings stuck in an empty shop window opposite. They're the plans for a HUGE new development being planned between Arbory Street and Malew Street. Check out: http://www.callowsyard.com/ Lots of new houses, flats, and apartments ... I think in total its something like 28 2-bedroom residences - good for the economy and local businesses. Plus a pedestrian square, a cafe (if anyone takes the lease?) some new shops and a revamp for 5 or so shops along Malew and Arbory Streets. Looks good! BUT - there's no parking planned whatsoever! ... 28 high value properties being built in Castletown ... how many new cars will that create? And where will they park exactly ... Any ideas anyone? Have the planners and developers got it right for once? Or considering the fact that they've not been able to sort out a field and temporary car park on Farrants Way for 20 years is it just so much hype that won't go anywhere and will just create more troubles with congestion and parking problems? What do you think?
cabbyl ushtey
Why do they need more shops in Castletown? There are lots of empty properties there already.
Frances
Hasn't this been through planning already - I remember hearing something like this well over 5 years ago - the criticism then I recall was parking.
Tempus Fugit
I understood there had to be 1.5 car park spaces per property (but who has 1.5 cars these days ?, maybe that's why the drives on a lot of new houses are 1.5 cars long and the rest park on the pavement) an odd project ?
