manxchatterbox
Back to the Abbey situation....etc......per Manx Radio November 18th:- The Treasury Minister has said the Government made a presentation to the parent of Abbey International, some months ago, to try and sell the Islands case for keeping the banks business. Allan Bell says he believes the Manx put up a very strong case after being invited to meet senior executives, but he says there were a lot of external issues at play. Recently in the press in the Statutory Notices section irish bank the AIB is re-domicilling its company to Jersey...this with rumours that its going to pull out much like Abbey....it closed its IOM trust operation nearly two years ago after spinning the yarn that it was "transfering the business to Jersey to create a centre of excellence" .....complete tosh....and it cost 20 odd local jobs that time round...and the MD decided to leave to persue a career with a law firm.So...do AIB deny withdrawal plans?? And what about other "presentations" the Treasury Minister knows about?? There is another situation that's rumoured and more on that later...(unless someone knows and can say more than I)
