Did anyone else notice this little gem - tucked away in the inside pages of the IoM independent?

The Isle of Man has been named European winner of The Banker Financial Centres of the Future award for 2005 leaving Jersey in the runner-up spot.

The Banker is a global publication read by senior bankers, corporate treasurers and financial directors. The award recognises those centres that excel in terms of growth, quality of regulation, infrastructure, business support services and political stability.

The awards did not differentiate between onshore and offshore, meaning the Island was competing against major centres such as London and Frankfurt.

Notice something? Good news, especially when they're based on facts, seem to leave people speechless around here..

But then, bad news and the latest rumours are just so much more fun, why care if something good happens....

Oh come on now...good news is much less interesting than bad news. Why say something positive about this when we can moan about Ned, the incinerator, the MEA, chemtrails etc etc.

I agree that there are negatives on the Island (much the same as anywhere) but lets have a little balance.

Thanks for reporting.

Well let's hope the Americans and the Arabs read this journal - then we won't have to keep sending people over to speak to them in person! Obviously the Americans don't or we wouldn't still be on this "blacklist" thingy they've got. By the way, never mind Jersey (who?) I think Sydney was second to us! Congratulations to all the bankers - I think perhaps they're the ones who should be in the delegations!!
