Mr. Sausages
Maybe all you people mocking him should have read this first: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/4121001.stm
TerryMcCann
Here is a map of the British Isles. Look where Wexford is. Arf! That would be quite some detour
Beckett
The British and Irish Governments will offer to connect the Isle of Man for free. The Isle of Man Government will refuse. Two years later they'll beg to be connected and we'll foot the bill. It's the way things work. Looking at it, it'd be twice the distance of the Chunnel and a fraction of the economic benefit. Mission
Waste of money and time. We'll all own one of these by 2050.

manxchatterbox
has anyone ever looked closely at an overlay of a map of the London Underground on the street plan and seen how the tunnels bear no resemblance to going directly between stations....same for Ireland to Wales..surely to include the IOm would be just a small detour in the overall scheme..and think of how much cheaper it would be to bring in petrol by roaqd tanker and other business commodities etc...instead of having to ship at the expensive convenience of IOMSPco...surely a tunnel would be more convenient - no matter how long it would be ?? TerryMcCann
It would be cheaper for the Government to buy us all our own lear jets to fly to and from the UK than it would to construct a tunnel. Unless they got half way and found a shit load of crude oil down there
Declan
If you are building a tunnel from point A to point B under water. You go from Point A to Point B, you do not detour to collect a small amount of traffic from Point C. The idea of an Ireland to Wales link might work but to add a 100 mile branch line that has to drive round Anglesey to a place with a population of less than 100,000 is a non-starter. Declan
How about a tunnel from Northern Ireland to Barrow. They could save money by building a motorway across the Ayres to Maughold. ;-)
manxchatterbox
I don't think a motorway from the Ayres across to Maughold would get through planning..would it? perhaps though the tunnel coming up for the IOM terminal connection in the middle of the old Andreas airfield would be okay as its out in the middle of now-where where there are lots of people..and like the Channel Tunnel wouldn't the property prices in Andreas just go through the roof like Ashford in Kent? sirdick
Why not build a giant catapult to launch cars across the Irish Sea?
cheesemonster2005
Here is a map of the British Isles. Look where Wexford is. It's good to see a map which doesn't label us the same color as the UK. The tunnel would be too expensive. No reason to include the IOM even if it was built. A tunnel from the 6 counties to Scotland would be more likely but who wants to go to the 6 counties when the other 26 are so much better.
Amadeus
Should the DoT do a feasibility study to ascertain if the proposed Irish/UK road tunnel should have a T spur to allow the IOM to be connected ?? Hmm...I like that tunnel idea - makes it so much easier to get our Panzers over, and now even directly from ze Kontinent, wifout ze need for ships or airkraft - build it! NOW! On the other hand: For merely suggesting such absolute nonsense, wasting my time looking at it, and preventing me from doing more useful things (such as alphabetizing my porn collection), you definitely win my own personal Worst Post Of The Year Award! Congratulations! (Please note: the award for Best Troll is given out separately, but you're shortlisted..)
