manxchatterbox
what's with AW's hair?? anyhoo, the crinkly old git aka "the man in the pub" ( he sometimes hangs out at the Railway in Douglas - otherwise sometimes known as the MR Rendezvous Cafe ) told me the other day how much AW was getting for doing his Saturday Sounds of the 60's show....and bear in mind John Kaneen and the other specialist music presenters get something like £25 quid for preparing, using their own CD's, and presenting an hour long show...how much was AW getting??... wait for it.... £15 Grand (is that someting like grand-theft??) - -did AW write his own contract whilst he was still working at MR? -makes you wonder how much extra if anything Chris Williams gets for his Saturday show..bet its nothing like AW if anything and the show is just as good if not better... I was also told AW used to steam round the station with a big beetroot head if he didn't get his own way...Marge is no doubt looking down with a smile on her face that another one of her infamous "gang" has disappeared..the question is which one is next?? (isn't there a MR celebrity already lined up for the longwave station when it starts? any ideas who it is? Susie Richardson? Bernie Quayle? Ashley Bentley? Stu Peters? or an other) and in any case if AW was rumbled then maybe it will be another recent come-over who gets rumbled....which ones at the station are recent come overs? Gladys
Manxchatterbox You are very good at attacking named individuals and discussing matters personal to them from the anonymity of your MF persona. Why don't you reveal who you are and what your particular gripe is? Surely there were two sides to the negotiation of AW's contract? If he secured the fee you are talking about then good on him, perhaps MR management thought it was worth it. Why don't you tell us what your salary is so we can decide whether or not you are worth your salt!
simon
isn't there a MR celebrity already lined up for the longwave station when it starts? Do you think that the Long Wave station will ever launch?
manxchatterbox
....perhaps MR management thought it was worth it. exactly!!! the point was that man in the pub says AW was part of the management and to all accounts an influential part..so much so that as no-one else had the commercial radio experience he had so no-one would have known what was good value or not..and seeing as CW now does a similar format show to Sounds of the 60's and which is just as good, maybe better ( and perhaps at little or minimal extra than his usual salary) then IMO its QED that AW was rumbelled.... Salt is one of the most valuable commodities when you don't have any..and its alwways worth having some handy just in case you need to rub it in.... or need a pinch to make things a little tastier..... Dear Manxcrapperbox Wasn't MR launched in 1964 (I remember the studio in the aquarium in Castle Street)? So nobody has any commercial radio experience? Don't you think that they have an annual budget and deliver programmes that they expect will sell the advertising that meets their annual budget? They are a commercial undertaking under public ownership. They still have to buy the best commodity to sell, the shortfall is taken up by the subvention/subsidy. That is the price we pay for having a national radio station! I have worked with a similar organisation (nothing to do with broadcasting) and the tensions are there, you have to conduct yourself commercially, but have no hope of ever achieving full self-sufficiency! But that is not my point, I think that you should not be posting identifiable personal details (whether or not, or probably worse, gossip) from a position of anonimity. If you have something to say by listing personal details, you should be brave enough to reveal yourself. By the way, I have absolutely nothing to do with MR, I just find your posts prurient. manxchatterbox
an deja vu.. as its Sunday it makes me wonder when someone from MR will log on to see what stories they can trawl to use as "news" tomorrow... maybe whilst I'm out at the Railway (UM) with the crinkly old git aka the "man in the pub"...I can get the real name of
zephyr
The funniest piece of news this year has to be *the QB roundabout shut cos an MR outside broadcast vehicle got stuck on wet grass.* Alex was a star when he reported that one, you could almost feel him cringing when he did the road watch. At first I wasn't sure about Alex but he grows on you. He's good at what he does and that's bring a smile to your face early in the morning when all you really want to do is stay in bed. I'm not sure about the *leaping about happy in your skin* bit. If I leapt about outlying regions would still be leaping well into the afternoon. I can only assume that the bosses on the head put a stop to the jovial banter he and Stu used to have.

lisner
hmmm, I listen in most of the time. The jovial banter mentioned is still there and we more often than not still get a one liner comment at the end of the news.
