Not really. None of them face the sea so the only view you get is the other side of the street

sarahc
Oh right. So both disused buildings. It's about time they were used for something, even if it is a crappy slot machine business.

Any use is better than no use. But more offices is simply crazy. Douglas city centre needs shops not more offices. Dental surgery is a good idea - much needed. Slot machines are cool too! Charles Flynn
People should be encouraged to live in or near the Town Centre so that it is not deserted at night. Of course with most of the present buildings in a poor state of repair this would mean a major urban regeneration scheme getting under way but it would help the affordable housing problem. Putting offices, slot machine arcades and dental surgeries into this area is perhaps not the best long term use for the neighbourhood but of course if that is the only option we shall have to accept it but some grant help from Government to regenerate the area in a sustainable way is needed to encourge people in this area to occupy empty properties. Government could help for instance with grants to bring them up to a standard to comply with the fire regulations and other major items of capital expenditure. crumlin
The Island needs a proper retail mall like most big towns, up by B&Q would be ideal with loads of carparking space
Rich
The Island needs a proper retail mall like most big towns, up by B&Q would be ideal with loads of carparking space Doubt there would be enough business coming through to make it viable, high street business is on the decline nationwide as it is. Ideally yes but likely no.
cheesemonster2005
The Island needs a proper retail mall like most big towns, up by B&Q would be ideal with loads of carparking space Out of city malls are not a great idea. In this day and age we should be discouraging the use of cars especially for things like shopping. There are many partly vacant areas in the city centre which would be better than further expanding into the countryside.

The dental surgery (1 surgery, 6 dentists I imagine, although I wouldn't have though it was big enough for six rooms) is the ground floor of the building we're in - purpose designed offices, so no accomodation opportunity being lost. manxchatterbox
lots of big offices available but all thats wanted are smaller units - says alot... also I was told recently that there is a desperate demand for retail units in Douglas.. so it seems plenty of entrepenures are still willling to take a risk...(an example would be the Esquire Corporate Shop in Duke St ..Esquire have re-located to the old Lord St Pharmacy - the other side of the zebra, and within a week of them leaving the shop in Duke St the lease had been signed by the present tenants - doing a sort of "secret garden" type shop...)
