Charles Kennedy being discussed tonight on "This Week"

It strikes me that the political system isnt working too badly if the party members are concerned enough about the effect of alcohol on judgement to force him out of job.

Presumably all the other parties would do the same thing. After all, politicians make laws and we dont want them doing it while blotto.

Strange thing is, another group of people make laws and there doesnt seem to be anyone about to check their alcoholic excesses and the effect on their judgement. Im thinking of judges of course. Law makers in their own right, undemocratic its true, but law makers nevertheless, and Im sure there are many drunkards amongst their ranks.

No one else think thats a problem ?

“...a meal without wine is not a meal at all. He sometimes takes port after lunch, and always after dinner . . . In the late afternoon he calls for his first whisky and soda . . . He likes a bottle of champagne at dinner. After the ritual of port, he sips the very finest Napoleon brandy. He may have a highball in the course of the evening.”
