What To Do With The Summerland Site

Actually a Casino/hotel is a very good idea, or a state of the art conference centre/hotel. At present the prom sort of peters out at the end. I think there may need to be a serious impact assessment to address the sort of knee jerk reactions typified by the previous posting.

An asda would be nice but wouldn't that cause traffic issues, Although they could get very big store and a decent car park.

And because the summerland site is near to the ferry terminal, the transporting cost's would be cheap.Although not as cheap as what tesco's probably is.

I think transport costs are largely irrelevant - transporting one to ten miles makes no difference when half the stuff has just traveled hundreds of miles across England or Ireland.

The Summerland site is a landmark area and shouldn't be replaced with just a supermarket.

Ice rink Snow Dome etc. Wouldn't be cost effective as I don't think many people would want to use it.

I think whoever it was that proposed a 4-500 person music venue would be a great idea. As at the moment there are loads of bands who can't support the Villa (and let's face it the Gaiety ain't much of a music venue) but equally are to big to put on at the Cornerhouse or similar pub.

I think some kind of large scale entertainment complex would be great. Somewhere you can have ANY type of event to a large number of people without restrictions because the building is expensive, far to delicate and a heritage site...

For instance the Venue did a Foam party shortly before it closed. Where do you think you can do that now?

True, The Summerland site is a landmark, Although transport cost's over time do add up to a good sum of money.

God forbid, is that shite really coming over here?!

Gossip....

(certainly hope not as well, last thing we need is 7p tins of beans....)

Just build something that looks good, but provides entertainment and something to do for kids, and to replace the venue........

or maybe the new boy will be Aldi or Lidl.....

ALDI is fantastic. They sell very cheap brands of very good quality. Their staff are also paid top whack for the job - hourly pay in Manchester for cashiers was over 8.00GBP and they were paying around 40,000GBP per annum for store managers. Some of their offers for bikes, computers and other household equipment are really good value.

As for LIDL - Poland is full of this shit.

Just btw: ALDI and LIDL are both German companies - well known discounters there..

The guys behind ALDI are the two richest Germans (they're brothers), and also made it into the Forbes Top 20 richest people - Karl Albrecht is Nr. 8 with $18.5 billion, and his Brother Theo is Nr 20 with $15.5 billion (they split the business between them) - not bad for self-made guys that started with nothing, I think...

The funny bit about ALDi is, that most of the stuff they sell was produced by well known brands (Nestle, Kraft, etc..), but they sell it under a different name - same stuff, but seriously cheaper...
