Quayside Renovation

You can just imagine one of the bulbs or something going wrong in the blue light area railings, and a Corpy worker saying "Sorry Yessir but the whole lot will have to come out, and we will not be able to do it either, it's a specialist company from South America that will have to come back to throw their eye over it"

And the rest is coming along as well:

Before / After:

Still think the whole north-quay re-development is gonna be good - just wait until the summer...

Hmm, looks like a nice bit of paving laying there - big puddles already, so presumably not laid on a gradient to drain into the inner harbour then

I noticed the internal lighting for the first time this morning at 6am - thought it looked superb. And I HAVE given Bruce Hannay a coupe of low digs over the months about this scheme, so hats off to the DoT.

Agree that the junction at the bottom of the hill is bad though - if you're in the left lane your view of oncoming traffic from the right is obscured - there'll be lots of work for panel beaters from that location!

I see that the paving they have put down is very textured, probably anti skate boarding surface, but I imagine that it would be dificult to walk on after a few drinks especially in high heels.

I can just see that the quay will be renovated and all nicely paved, but the buildings will still be the same old buildings. Once the renovations are finished, the speculators will sell their properties to the developers who will then renovate the buildings, which will involve having heavy plant on the nice new paving and probably digging up the road. So the paving etc will probably need redoing by the time all the properties on the quay have been redeveloped.

If you think the traffic down there is bad now, just wait until Dan Dare have turned the whole place in to appartments that no one can afford.

I'll be doing my shopping at Shoprite as you won't be able to get near Tescos.

Tesco will do OK. They have been given their own private access road.

I cant think of any other reason for a traffic management scheme which, in removing the route across the stone bridge to N Quay, has resulted in a genuine bottleneck at the lift bridge and the police station roundabout.

its not only tesco that have gained an access road, the new traffic route takes you very convieniently past the heritage homes offices and then round to the new heritage homes show apartments, the money spent on the quayside renovation is obviously to make the area more attractive to the developers currently looking at the site for the construction of the 'much needed luxury hotels'!!!!.

the quay side is no longer for the people, you cant park for more than 2 hours you are forced to drive over the millenium bridge along the other side of the quay that has nothing attractive to look at but the rusting wreck of the solway harvester and the delivery areas of the many business along there, whats the point in renovating the area if you cant drive along it and enjoy it.

its a pity the visitors who arrive off the boat dont get to see a nice renovated area around the sea terminal carpark, the roundabout and the drive along the prom is a disgrace, but then we could always re-route the traffic so they drive along the quay and get to see the lovely work thats been done.

I'm just glad that hundreds of thousands of pounds of ratepayers money is going on blue lamps and lovely paving so that when Dandara finally decide redevelop the riverside the area will look really really nice.

Money well spent Douglas Town Council.

I do not understand this at all. To get to one end of North Quay to the other they make you drive a long way round, where is the benefit of that? I have seen many cars either purposefully ignoring the layout or not understanding and driving straight thought. Every junction has no clear manner in which to treat it, it's a game we have to play and the winner is whoever interprets the white stone they have flung around here and there in a manner which benefits them and their car drives on. Quite quite mad.

who has right of way when the traffic meets in the middle of north quay and why isn't it made clear. the junction at bottom of railway hill is also terribly confusing and has no indication as to how its supposed to be used
